Special Order

Custom-Built Fencing, Made to Order

You picked a finish or mesh we run in scheduled batches. Here’s how it works, who else trusts us with custom jobs, and what to expect.

What Special Order means

BarrierBoss manufactures every panel in-house. Our standard colour lines — like black hog wire and our most popular finishes — run continuously, and we keep finished inventory on the shelf. Those orders ship in days.

Custom finishes are different. Rust/corten patina, aluminum colours, ZeroMaintenance brown frames, steel board, and uncommon mesh openings (1″×1″ or 2″×6″) each require a full tooling and coating changeover on our line. Spinning the line up for a single panel isn’t feasible — so we run these finishes in scheduled batches. When you place a Special Order, your panels join the next batch run.

This is what lets us offer the variety — rather than dropping custom finishes from the catalogue entirely. The trade-off is the lead time. We’re upfront about it so you can plan around it.

How we make your fence

Whether it’s a standard panel or a Special Order, the process is the same — we just run custom finishes in scheduled batches instead of continuously.

1

Steel wire drawing & welding

Gauge-6 steel wire is drawn, cut to length, and welded into the mesh pattern you’ve specified — 2″×2″, 4″×4″, 1″×1″, or 2″×6″ openings.

2

PVC dip-coating

Every panel is dip-coated in commercial-grade PVC — the colour bonded directly to the steel. Not dip-coated, not sprayed. Dip-coating is thicker, more uniform, and dramatically more weather-resistant.

3

Frame fabrication (if applicable)

For framed panels — Pressure Treated, Cedar, or aluminum — the frame is cut, joined, and finished separately. ZeroMaintenance kits get a metal frame; Wood-frame panels get rough-cut PT or Western Red Cedar.

4

Assembly & QC

Mesh meets frame. Hardware checked. Panel laid flat and inspected for coating defects, mesh consistency, and frame integrity before it’s pulled to the shipping floor.

5

Packing & loading

Panels palletized and load-secured on our trucks. We ship and unload on our own vehicles where possible — the difference between a panel that arrives intact and one that arrives bent.

6

Direct-to-door delivery

Unloaded onto your driveway. No third-party freight company, no “curbside” surprise. Our driver, our truck, your panel.

40-Year Warranty
PVC dip-coat · tested past 40 years of UV and weather exposure

Our PVC dip-coating is engineered for 40+ years of UV and weather exposure. Custom finishes are the same coating as our standard line — the wait is for tooling and batch scheduling, not for compromised durability.

Massive custom projects we’ve delivered

Some of the biggest fencing contractors in North America order Special Order finishes from us and wait the lead time. They do it because the product is worth the wait.

Lead time: 6–8 weeks production, then your normal delivery

Special Order items add 6–8 weeks of custom-build production time on top of our normal delivery window to your zone. The production window comes first; once your panels come off the line, they ship on the regular delivery clock for your area.

Example: if your zone normally ships in 5–7 days, a Special Order item lands roughly 7–9 weeks after you order (6–8 weeks production + 5–7 days delivery).

Want it faster?

Many of our standard finishes ship in days. If you’re looking at a 1″×1″ or 2″×6″ mesh and you’re flexible, switching to 2″×2″ or 4″×4″ mesh in the same panel size and frame puts you on our in-stock line — ships within a week. Similarly, if you’re looking at a custom colour, the standard Black variant is almost always in stock.

Use the colour/mesh/frame selectors on any product page to see what’s in stock now.

Mixed carts & updates

Mixed carts

If you order Special Order items and in-stock items together, the in-stock portion can ship right away (we’ll split the shipment) or wait to ship together with the Special Order portion — your choice. We’ll reach out before splitting.

Updates along the way

You’ll hear from us at key milestones — when your batch run is scheduled, when production starts, when your panels come off the line, and when they ship. Silence isn’t the plan; communication is.

Cancellation & refund policy

  • Within 48 hours of order: full refund available, no questions.
  • 48 hours – 7 days after order: 90% refund (10% restocking fee covers our batch-scheduling commitment).
  • After 7 days OR once your batch run is scheduled: no cash refunds, but we’ll work with you on store credit or a swap to a different in-stock product.
  • If our lead time exceeds the estimate by more than 2 weeks: you may cancel for a full refund regardless of when the order was placed.
