Description

Pool Fence Panels

A pool barrier has to do two jobs at once: keep a child out, and let you see the water from the house. Welded steel does both — an open grid you can see straight through, in a panel rigid enough that it does not flex when someone leans on it.

The opening size is the whole decision

Pool barrier code sets two different limits, and almost everyone quotes the wrong one. Where a fence's horizontal members sit 45 inches or more apart, openings may be up to 4 inches. Welded wire has horizontal wires every few inches, so it never qualifies for that allowance — it is held to 1.75 inches instead, with the horizontal members on the pool side.

That makes the 1" x 1" mesh the option to order. Our 2" x 2", 2" x 6" and 4" x 4" openings are excellent fences and are not pool barriers.

Height, gates and ground clearance

Height: 48 inches is the common minimum and California requires 60 inches. Every size here clears 60.
Ground gap: no more than 2 inches between grade and the bottom of the panel.
Gates: self-closing and self-latching, latch at 60 inches, swinging away from the pool.

Always confirm the specifics with your local building department before ordering — pool barrier rules are enforced locally and they do vary.

❓ FAQ

Which mesh opening meets pool barrier code?
The 1" x 1". Pool codes allow up to a 4-inch opening only where a barrier's horizontal members sit 45 inches or more apart. Welded wire has horizontal wires every few inches, so it is held to the tighter 1.75-inch limit instead. Our 2"x2", 2"x6" and 4"x4" openings are excellent fences and are not pool barriers.

How tall does a pool fence have to be?

What about the gap at the bottom?
No more than 2 inches between grade and the bottom of the barrier. On sloping ground that usually means stepping the panels rather than raking them.

Do I need a special gate?
Yes. Pool gates must be self-closing and self-latching, swing away from the pool, and carry the latch at 60 inches. Always confirm the specifics with your local building department.
